JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A barge accident occurred on Wednesday, August 14, after a 700-foot barge broke loose from its mooring near downtown Jacksonville, sideswiping the Crowley Terminal pier including the tugboats Ensign and Patriarch.
The Coast Guard was called to the scene after Crowley Marine notified watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center that the barge broke loose. The Crowley Terminal is located near Talleyrand Ave. and Bond Ave. in Jacksonville, Fla.
Crowley Marine told the media that the barge broke free as a result of severe weather in the area and that the pier and tugboats suffered minimal damage from the accident.
There were no reports of injuries or pollution at the time of the incident.
