BOLIVAR COUNTY, MS – A barge accident took place on the Mississippi River last Saturday when a towing vessel pushing two asphalt barges struck a dike, causing asphalt to leak into the water. The coast guard arrived on the scene to assist.
According to Lt. Ryan Gomez, the accident occurred at about 4 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at mile marker 613 near Gunnison in Bolivar County. The damage to the barge caused approximately 10 gallons of asphalt to spill into the water.
